School Background The concept of the Sainik Schools was originated by Mr. Krishna Menon, who was the Defence Minister in the early sixties. Mr. Menon felt that a school with rudiments of a military way of life in each state could go a long way in building up an infra structure for intake into the National Defence Academy. He was also of the view that such institution would serve as an ideal alma mater for the hardly, intelligent sections of boys hailing from the rural areas of our country. On the national front, such institutions would serve the purpose of correcting the regional imbalance in the officer cadre of the Defence forces, as it existed then. This school came into being on 26th January, 1962.
