School Background
In response to a widely expressed disire for a public school for Indian girls run on modern lines, the Welham Girls' High Schol was opened on 30th January, 1957 by Miss Oliphant who had earlier set up the Welham Boys' School in 1937. In 1956 Miss Oliphant acquired a palatial estate and started a small boarding school for girls. Welham Girls' High School was founded with Miss Oliphant as founder President, to raise fund for the school beset with several problems such as lack of funds, building, staff and students. Miss G.M. Linnell, founder Principal, was entrusted the task of building-up and running the school and she worked tirelessly at it till her death in 1970. By the determined efforts of Miss Linnell and her successors, the school has earned for itself a reputation for excellence in education.
